Moving Tips
- Contact local Post office to redirect mail
- Consider the needs of young children leading up to and during your relocation example; schooling, uniforms, text books and medication
- Consider the needs of other family members especially the elderly, disabled and incapacitated leading up to and during your relocation
- Dispose of that unwanted furniture and chattels that have been gathering dust. It's always a good time reduce the clutter when relocating as it will reduce and minimise the cost and make your removal easier
- Be thorough about pre-packing; don't spare the packing paper when packing cutlery, plates, bowls and china.
- Arrange your storage needs if applicable.
- Estimate the volume of your goods and chattels as it always a good measure to know how much gear you have. This can be done by filing out a space estimator form
- If it fits in a box use a box. It's always make the task of handling your goods and chattels easier if they a boxes suitably. This reduces and minimises the handling of loose items and chattels
- Label all boxes clearly that contain fragile items
- Try to use uniform boxes and if possible use industry supplied standard T chest cartons and book & wine boxes, these cartons are specifically designed and are robust double thickness cartons.
- Notify motor registry for change of address :license and vehicle registration
- Put aside essential items required so they are not packed away
- Create an inventory and condition report of your goods and chattels (specially jewellery and other expensive personal items)
- Enquire about insurance needs for your removal with your Insurance company or ask about our transit carrier and handling insurance
- Disconnect utilities, gas, water and phones and advise on the day of your relocation
- Advise all relevant parties of your new address
- Disassemble furniture; example beds, remove dining table legs (if possible),flat pack shelving (if possible)\ and flat large office pack desks.
- Disassemble trampolines and kids swing sets if applicable.
- Don't water pot plants in the days leading up to your removal.
- Defrost your fridge and freezer the day before your removal.
- Clearly label all packing boxes for distribution in your new premise.
- Use plastic covers on items that may require this protection example; beds, lounges, cushions etc.
- Consider transport and securing your pets during your relocation.
- Empty fish tanks, drain all water and remove rocks and sand beds from tanks.
- Drain fuel from lawn mowers and whipper snipers.
- Drain fuel from petrol cans and do not store these items in storage facilities
